I Love My Bike

I Love My Bike
by Matt Finkle and Brittain Sullivan

Cycling is about joy. Sure, it takes willpower, strength, and grit, but at its core, being on a bike is all about rejoicing in the greatest transportational invention in history. I Love My Bike is a photographic celebration of the grand kinship of bicycles, a bond shared by millions of people around the world.

This distinctive and affordable coffee table book for cyclists collects the best of the stories, photographs, and bicycles encountered by the authors during numerous cross-country photo-journaling trips. Readers will meet longtime messengers and hardcore roadies, casual commuters and weekend day-trippers, tattoo artists and skateboarders, bike builders and first-time owners—all of them in love with their two-wheeled contraptions. With gorgeous full-color photos on every spread, I Love My Bike delivers the trifecta of awesome for any cyclist: cool people, cool photos, and really, really cool bikes. >>>

Colin Tury | Unorganized Cabinet

The 'Unorganized Cabinet'
by Colin Tury

Description from the designer:
I just graduated from CCS (College For Creative Studies) in Detroit, MI. with a degree in furniture design and a minor in industrial design.
This piece is from my senior show which consisted of a full living room set.
The main theme to my show was about my unorganized lifestyle. This piece in particular was about balancing all the clutter. It was a study done for my advanced woodworking class to test the utility of a common drawer and door. Each individual cabinet represents a particular element in my life.
The cabinet consist of a large 2 door cabinet and 3 separate drawer cabinets. Each drawer has fully functional wood slides. The frame holding up the cabinet represents my construction background and appears to be nailed to the cabinet as a temporary support.

Marcus H. Rosenmüller | Sommer in Orange

Sommer in Orange
ab 18.

Matthew Shlian | The Tessellation Series

The Tessellation Series
by Matthew Shlian

Statement by the artist
As a paper engineer my work is rooted in print media, book arts and commercial design. Beginning with an initial fold, a single action causes a transfer of energy to subsequent folds, which ultimately manifest in drawings and three dimensional forms. I use my engineering skills to create kinetic sculpture which have lead to collaborations with scientists at the University of Michigan. We work on the nanoscale, translating paper structures to micro origami. >>>

Kelsey Brookes | The way of the wave

Nice footage about Californian based Artist Kelsey Brookes
by Nicolas Doldinger.

Kelsey Brookes is an artist of contrasts. His well-documented background in microbiology, surf culture and folk art combine in explosive prisms of raucous color, bold imagery and timeless motifs. Raw and un-tethered, his vibrant, mixed-media assemblages reveal a free-flowing aesthetic that’s altogether energetic, sexual and humorous. Each work is a microcosm of life itself, where smiley-faced characters and wild animals cavort with abstract forms and splices of color to form something infinitely complex and visually joyful.
Brookes’ quick ascent to artistic success in both the United States and the Europe has led to a variety of fine art and commercial platforms, increasing the demand and value of his work.

Riding at night can be a daunting and dangerous task; many biking commuters are faced with the issue of being obscured when riding on the streets.

Visibility at night is a vital component of biker safety, hence the need for reflectors and attachable lights. However, some of these devices are not always effective especially from the side. >>>

Matthew Allard | Karakuri

Karakuri
by Matthew Allard

Japan has always been on the forefront of cutting edge robotics.
Its roots can be traced back 200-300 years during the Edo period when skilled craftsmen created automata (self-operating machines). Using nothing more than pulleys and weights they were able to make the Karakuri (Japanese automata) perform amazing tasks.

Japans modern day robots can be traced back to the Karakuri.
Today Hideki Higashino is one of the few remaining craftsmen who is determined to keep the history and tradition of Japanese Karakuri alive.

Shot and edited by Matthew Allard.

Jeremy Pettis | 26 Types of Animals

26 Types of Animals
by Jeremy Pettis

Description by Jeremy Pettis:
To most people Typography means nothing more than what the words or letters say. This may be because our brain subconsciously reads everything our eyes land on and immediately tells us what information that type is trying to say. So there is really little need for anyone to pay any close attention to Typography, and most people don't. Normally, a person's relationship with a word lasts milliseconds, or maybe seconds depending on how long and complex the word is. With this project I'm hoping to change all of this.

Since Typography is this sort of foreign land I decided to lure people within it by combining it with a very familiar comfortable subject, animals. Since we were children we have learned all about animals, their name, shape, attitude, habitat, you name it. You most definitely learned about the animals prior to acquiring the skill of reading written type/language. I also feel that animals are the perfect subjects for typographic exploration. Much like typefaces, there are millions of species all having their own set of unique variant sub-divisions. So using animals as a bridge, I will show you how much life and personality Typography actually has within, and hopefully the type will linger in your mind longer than the average word would. >>>
