Fogo Island Studios | Saunders Architecture

Fogo Island Studios
by Saunders Architecture.
Photography by Bent Rene´Synnevåg

Fogo Island lies outside of Newfoundland, Canada and is home to a gentle, independent people who have lived for centuries between wind and waves in pursuit of fish.

The concept of the long studio responds to the transition of the seasons.
The studio is organized in a linear from that consists of three different spaces. An open but covered area representing the spring marks the entrance to the studio and the beginning of the seasonal activity. The central portion is left open and mostly exposed to be fully immersed in all that is offered by the long summer days on Fogo Island.
The end and main body of the studio is fully enclosed to provide an area of protection and solitude from the outside environment while still providing a connection to the landscape through a strategically framed view of the dramatic surrounding.[via]

Endless Chair | Dirk Vander Kooij

......................................................................................................

Endless Chair by Dirk Vander Kooij.

One plastic string, made out of old refrigerators, crafted by a robot, into a chair.

The Designer:
“I taught a robot his new craft: drawing furniture out of one endlessly long plastic string. this opened the possibility for me to design in the good old-fashioned way, making a chair, evaluating, refining, making a chair, evaluating, refining and making a chair. Or developing an infinitely large collection of variations, endlessly.”

‘House in Macinhata da Seixa’

‘House in Macinhata da Seixa’ by Nuno Brandão Costa Arquitecto.

This single family home on a little hill near Oliveira city, Portugal was realised by the Porto based practice Nuno Brandão Costa Arquitecto. The building is composed of two stacked cubic volumes which form the first and second storey and a basement hidden under the slope to open itself over Oliveira city.[via]

the architect:
“The client wanted to a house that would fulfil an old dream: to be in the living-room and watch the sea. The land was high but not enough to get a glimpse of the water down there in the West. Thus, the house kept rising volume after volume until it reached the living-room, opened and looking at the sea.”

'ivy noise'

'ivy noise'
by Daniela di Maro & Roberto Pugliese.
